How to work out what a check will actually cost you

1. Start from the published floor, not the average. The advertised entry price across the five providers that publish one runs from $29.00 to $39.99 a report, median $29.99. Treat that as the price of the smallest configuration, which is what the word starting on every one of those pages means.
2. Add the counties. Most convictions in the United States are recorded at county level, so the number of counties a candidate has lived in during your lookback period is the main multiplier on the bill. Two extra county searches on a $29.99 base is a materially different number.
3. Add the verifications you actually need. Employment, education and professional licence verifications are priced individually and take human effort. Decide whether you verify the most recent employer or every employer in seven years before you compare quotes, because providers assume differently.
4. Add drug testing and driving records separately. A urine panel at a collection site and a motor vehicle record are separate purchases with their own prices, often through a different supply chain. They are frequently quoted in the same proposal and almost never included in the advertised per-check rate.

RentSpree publishes $39.99 for a standard tenant screening report and $49.99 for a comprehensive one.

Across the entry tiers that gives a median of $29.99, a minimum of $29.00 and a maximum of $39.99. That is a narrow band, and it is narrow because these are the products designed to be bought without a salesperson. The moment a programme needs configuring, the published price stops being the relevant number.

Why most providers publish nothing

Every enterprise provider on this site keeps a pricing page that answers and carries no figure. That is recorded here as read, page live, no price. The commercial reason is that an enterprise screening contract prices a search mix across a hiring volume, often with integration work into an applicant tracking system, and a single headline rate would misdescribe it.

For a buyer, the consequence is simple and worth naming: you cannot shortlist the enterprise tier on price at all before you speak to them.
